USG-Gledco specialise in engineered carbon and graphite solutions. They were already certified to ISO 9001: 2008 when I was invited to work with Richard, the MD. The company quality management system was based on the 2008 version of the Standard and unfortunately reflected the Standard more than it did the company.

Understanding and buy-in was at an all-time low, so my challenge was to educate Richard on the requirements of the Standard, and to introduce a better way of constructing a management system.

This involved the identification and documentation of business processes; something the company had never done before and weren’t familiar with. This proved to be a crucial learning-curve for Richard, as it was an opportunity to understand how the systems at USG-GLEDCO worked and what the tasks were, who performed them and in what sequence. By constructing process documents, Richard was able to get a true understanding of his business processes and build a valuable process-based management system. I thn coached Richard to implement the requirements of the Standard into the processes.

USG-GLEDCO successfully transitioned to ISO 9001: 2015 in June 2018, and now have a management system that provides transparency, management controls and KPI’s that assists the company to manage quality and continue to grow.
